Upper East Side Texas Magazine is a regional publication rooted in storytelling—connecting readers to the people, places, and experiences that define this part of Texas.
We’re looking for thoughtful, well-crafted writing that reflects the spirit of East Texas and beyond. Whether it’s a quiet moment, a strong voice, or a story that stays with you—we want to read it.
What We’re Looking For
We welcome:
- Poetry
- Short Stories
- Creative Nonfiction / Personal Essays
We’re especially drawn to work that is:
- Grounded in place and experience
- Character-driven and story-forward
- Honest, readable, and well-crafted
This is not an academic publication. We value voice, clarity, and connection.
Submission Categories
Poetry
- Submit 1–3 poems
- Recommended length: under 60 lines per poem
Short Stories
- 1,000–4,000 words
- Must be a complete, standalone work
Creative Nonfiction / Essays
- 800–2,500 words
- Personal, regional, or experience-based stories encouraged
General Guidelines
- Submissions must be original and unpublished
- One submission per category
- Include a short author bio (50–75 words)
- Submit via link to Google Drive or Dropbox file

- Standard formatting:
- 12 pt. font
- Double-spaced (prose)
- Clean, readable layout
Regional Focus
While we welcome submissions from all writers, priority may be given to:
- Writers from Upper East Side Texas
- Work that reflects the region’s culture, landscape, and communities
Rights
Authors retain copyright.
Upper East Side Texas Magazine requests
first publication rights and may use accepted work for print, digital, and promotional purposes.
Compensation
At this time, Upper East Side Texas Magazine does not offer payment for literary submissions, including poetry, short stories, and essays.
Contributors whose work is selected will be published in both print and digital editions and may be featured across the magazine’s editorial and promotional platforms.
What Not to Send
To stay aligned with our editorial direction, we do not accept:
- Previously published work
- Academic or research papers
- Political, religious, or explicit content
